A Nursery-Rhyme For Paradox  /  Joshua Alan Sturgill

My heart is One.  Can it be known?

A seed must sleep
Until it’s sown

So I’ll divide my heart in Eight

The pattern
On the narrow gate

And I’ll divide my heart in Seven

Six for dough
And one for leaven

And I’ll divide my heart in Six

Two candles with
Two flames, two wicks

And I’ll divide my heart in Five

The four directions
In one eye

And I’ll divide my heart in Four

The oaken beams
That frame a door

And I’ll divide my heart in Three

To play a chord
In Trinity

Then I’ll divide my heart in Two

To make it wings
I brake it through

With wings it flies from Two to Eight

Eternity
Outpaces fate

And back again from Seven to Three

Hope overrules
Necessity

Now I divide my heart in One

A puzzle
Finished, not begun

A seed asleep until it’s sown

In the flower
The seed is known
