In the Year of Apollo
I looked into the Sun
In the Year of the Golden Skin
I missed an opportunity
In the Year of Missed Opportunity
I learned to operate a comptometer
In the Year of Encroaching Sands
I prayed for rising seas
In the Year of the Marigolds
I memorized the Katha Upanishad
In the Year of Begging Forgiveness
Only the marigolds were listening
In the Year of the Zodiac
I dreamt of animals dancing in a circle
In the Year of Metered Verse
I swore oaths on the serpent’s tail
In the Year of the Revolution
I wanted only to live
In the Year of Someone Else’s Desire
