She started out an obscure commune in Themyscira,
membership standards famously severe.

Then (for reasons rather obscure) lent her name
to an equatorial rainforest and its principal river.

She’s a river again, so to speak: a flow
of goods and services — a kind of infinite wetnurse

who confines her children in childhood
with the sedentary ghosts of possibility.  

Just last week, she sent me supplements sourced
from endangered herbs — they arrived miraculously 

free of shipping charges (perhaps I qualified
for her much-lightened membership plan?) and

helpfully, she suggested A History of Archery,
wallpaper, and a monthly supply of infant formula
