Divine Infinitives / Joshua Alan Sturgill
To be both a self and an other.
To be all things
but only all flowers
but only a single rose.
To be both the command
and that which cannot be,
immovably dancing
To wash your hands
in the Fountain of Time
(it pours from a lion’s mouth
to a basin ornamented
with dolphins and swans)
in some quiet courtyard
of Eternity’s Palace
To live incongruent lives
together and at once:
a child sage is
an eagle is a plume
of subterranean fire is
the oldest among
ageless gods
