Kong Ming Cooperates With The Tao /  Joshua Alan Sturgill

When I die, place seven grains of rice on my tongue
for the seven stars of the Bear

and arrange my body face up, feet south
and arms extended along the Sun’s course

so that my prayer will remain with you a little longer
and your battles will be more easily won.

For I tell you that Heaven delights
in such gestures of awareness. And Earth — child

among the gods — has a grace
unpredictable, but powerful in its innocence
