Notice the Lotus (A Lyric for Spring)  /  Joshua Alan Sturgill

Notice the Lotus.
Put your nose to the Rose.
Say Hi to the Hydrangea,
and then ask him how he grows.
Show kindness to the Cowslips
you can kiss them with your Tulips.
Only notice what the Lotus always knows.

Make friends with your Anemones.
Take wisdom from the Sage.
Don’t be hasty with Impatiens
as their hue improves with age
like the yellow in the Yarrow
that’s as mellow as the Mallow.
To a bee (or not), then all the whorls a stage.

The Holly and the Hollyhock
are waiting every dawn
with Daffodils and Dandelions
dancing on the lawn.
For Datura you’re desirous
so serene seen through your Iris.
But by autumn, Agapanthus will be gone.

Flowers never battle,
but they do get into rows.
Crocuses, they say, will spring
from Phlox of angry crows.
Sunflowers have the brightest bloom
in the entire Cosmos.
This is what the Lotus always knows.
