“Peak District Park”

“Peak District Park” / Benjamin Rozonoyer

you’ll think, making the mental leap,
Where sheepdogs don’t bark,
but not for absence of sheep.”

Manchester and Mam Tor vanishing,
us passing pasture no longer lit —
I’ve lived through it but have not painted it
thought Lorenzo di Medici.

Train past Dronfield,
hardness of heart,
and ten tithes of mint —

since barley’s been sparse,
wheat will no longer yield,
and the Bible is out of print.
