Scape /  Joshua Alan Sturgill

Through history, myth and metaphor
this Play has been performed before:

a Knife appears en medias res
and, bound in silence, a Victim says

This is my throat; these are my chains.
Which will you cut?
          Who will you blame?

The Knife: the means to have our choice.
The Victim: a stranger without a voice.

A spectacle rendered on every stage,
by every actor in every age

through media, politics, threats of war,
we paint the Script on every door
