Seven Sea Haiku / Joshua Alan Sturgill
secret sea-promise
elusive
as ecstasy:
somewhere an island
life phantasmic, life
inversed — of
blood without breath
of flesh without bones
ocean paths twined like
handmade lace
only mother’s
mothers remember
silver pearls fall
from a blue ship
with white sails
— so to sea, the rain
before he vanished
his boat
had long been followed
by cold, lightless eyes
the sun calls brightly
but can never
awaken
these undreaming depths
I saw her and cried
such grief!
— infinite beauty
unreachably far
