The Olivet Prescription / Joshua Alan Sturgill
Earthquakes in diverse places
— your hands, for example.
And the civil unrest of auto-immune disease, a house
divided against itself, a nation
against its neighbors. Cataracts make signs in the sky;
deafness, like a darkness over the deeps.
First, famine overtakes you.
You eat but do not feel nourished; you drink,
but your mouth remains a stone.
Take heed that no one deceives you:
many medications come in the name of health. But these
are just the beginning of sorrows.
Your memories shall be delivered up;
your joints shall betray you.
But the end has not yet come.
So when you see this desolation, flee quickly
from complaining and from entertainment.
Become tender, thoughtful, generous.
Let your soul put forth the fruit
of prayer. Why seek the false prophets of advertising,
the false comforts of internet addictions?
Not one stone shall be left upon another of your body. Behold:
You have been warned in advance.
Therefore, prepare your soul;
do not go down to collect more possessions.
Your enemy advances. Make haste
and fly up to the mountains
