The Ancient Modern
Together, God / Joshua Alan Sturgill
God and I together seek
where our single heart runs deep
where our single eye receives
Light that light alone perceives
God and I together go
right where Eden’s rivers flow
right to where our sins emerge
ground where grace and sin converge
God and I together say
words that words cannot convey
knowledge never known enough
knowledge only passed through touch
God and I together bind
all the wounds of sin we find
one hand holds and one hand heals
the mystery each wound reveals
Together, God and I in peace
from sorrow and from thirst, release
life entangles, death unbinds
— water ever turned to Wine
