Two Prairie Poems

Two Prairie Poems / Benjamin Rozonoyer

1
Prairie-wary
To have all
is never to miss a
lark bunting fluttering off the gravel,
 or cicada near a chimesa.

But do not look straight at the sun
from beneath —

it pierces your eyes like a yucca leaf. ...

2
Prairie-bearing prairie,
a lifelong longing.
No less a mesa,
though very
conical.
