Which I?  Joshua Alan Sturgill

I — which I?  The I
within the word,
beneath the breath?  The I
of the I that floods out
through ink and screen?  The I
between the horses
of the elements, caught
on the web of history?  I
who am not I, and I
who am, and I who am you
(one I), I know
the glow of polished mahogany
and Spring’s first yellow butterfly
and the shores of Ascension Island
are also
the I that I will
and the I that I am given
