You May Enter / Joshua Alan Sturgill

Under the beechtree boughs
             you may wake
into a songbirds’ chorus
onflowing
and endlessly inventive

and you were older then
             you knew
the river mutes the Sun
to brighten the music

and the whole of all-that-is-
onfolding
             was given
to ornament the melody
with color and form

Before you spoke
            you may enter
the beechtrees’ ancient
            listen    listen    listen
adding to the song
their listen-sound

onmoving
with unhurried intention
