LET THE EARTH BRING / Josua Alan Sturgill
With dragon-like ferocity
with sword and shield
of thorn and husk
desert flowers forge their vaults
under alignments of seasons
and codes deciphered from the sky.
What was, to be again, must trust
to risings, transits, and rains — in a word:
to ritual. This wild wisdom
which the pomegranate shows
in multiplicity, the date palm
in endurance, the myrrh in burning
converse with holy souls
is simple, yet we cultured fools forget:
there is no memory without tradition
