Never Have I Ever / Joshua Alan Sturgill
Never have I ever
as the train rumbles by
and the sun rises on a morning in October
seen the refrigerator so full
or my calendar so full
and though we complain
we can’t seem to slow down
Never have I ever
known anyone to take seriously
predictions of disaster
or to remove automation
once the computer is installed
Never have I ever
had a reason to think
these are the days of Noah
after all, everyone’s on a diet
(so not eating and drinking)
and the divorce rate is rising
(so not being given in marriage)
and as long as there’s freedom
to complain, and so much
to complain about, I trust
that Never won’t ever arrive
