Of Distance  /  Joshua Alan Sturgill

Clouds’ shadows walk
on spires of stone
easily — as if matter
and time
were tilings

of a temple floor.
Terrified
by my deep smallness
— how far?  How old
is everything?

A grazing deer
— red point
on the green ridge
— is my only measure
of distance
