The Ancient Modern

Theotokion /  Joshua Alan Sturgill

(Luke 1:43)

Who am I, that I should be a scholar?
There are no windows within me, only doors

          Gracious Mother, mystic rose
Teach my heart what your heart knows

Who am I, that I should attempt to guide?
There are only clearings within me, no paths

          Nuestra Señora, mystic rose
Lead my heart where your heart goes

Who am I, that I should be a priest?
Yet I beg for the union of earth and heaven

          Untouched Mountain, mystic rose
What you open, none can close

All things are veiled unveilings.  Who am I
that I should become an Icon of God?

          Theotokos, mystic rose
What was hidden, your Word shows
