A Letter to the Editor
Well, we aren’t talking about Peter.
On July 29, 1915, The Evening News ran the following letter. It is a curious flight of ideas fit into a rather compact space. It reads:
The correspondent may be referring to “Our Soldiers in Armour: The Story of a Dream,” a Machen article published in the paper on July 24. Possibly, the good Major was not familiar with The Great God Pan which was published 21 years before this letter. For now, a response from Machen is not known to exist. Any comments he may have made are certainly fuel for an entertaining bit of conjecture.

Perhaps Major Kemp was familiar with The Great God Pan -and “The Bowmen” as well – and discreetly hoping for a distinctly different and complementary story to one or both!
